Who We Help

Ware Charities focuses on those living permanently*, working, or receiving education or training within the geographic area of Ware, Wareside and Thundridge. 

We partner with local organisations and groups that deliver support and services to those in need, including social care, health care and education providers.

Grants are available in the following areas.​

Funding for Individuals & Families

We provide practical support with the provision of everyday items and expenses. A referral needs to be made by a professional like a support worker, social worker, health visitor, senior teacher, minister of religion or local councillor. Examples of grants include:

 

  • Household Essentials: Basic household furniture and furnishings such as beds, wardrobes and essential baby equipment like buggies. White goods includes cookers, fridges, freezers and washing machines.

Funding for Education Expenses

Individuals can apply for a grant for themselves or their family if it falls under the category of education including:

 

  • School & Education Costs for Young People: Funding for educational activities, school-related expenses like school trips, uniforms, and training development.

  • Parent & Carer Training: For those seeking to retrain and needing help with course fees.

​​Funding for Groups & Organisations

Grant applications can be made by a charity, community group or local voluntary organisation with their own constitution (or similar), a dedicated bank account and that operates in or provides a valuable service to the community. These are examples of some of the types of organisations we support:

  • Advice Services: Supporting organizations that provide critical guidance to those in need.

  • Warm Spaces: Supporting spaces that provide comfort and refuge during colder months.

  • Arts and Music: Encouraging cultural and creative pursuits in the area.

  • Sports and Exercise: Promoting physical well-being and active lifestyles.

  • Social Isolation: Addressing loneliness and fostering community connections.

  • Elderly Support: Helping older adults maintain dignity, independence, and social engagement​​

*or who have an offer of housing (secure, assured, or assured shorthold tenancy).

Types of Grants

Individuals or Families

Grants for items or assistance to an individual or a family are typically offered on a one-off basis to support a particular project, event, activity or the purchase of equipment or to support education. See above for examples of items that have been purchased previously. Funds must be used within 1 year of the award. Any unspent monies left after this time must be returned.

Organisations or Groups

These grants are for established organisations (with a constitution and bank account) who provide a community service in the area. This grant is also open to new groups wishing to start up and receive a contribution towards their running costs. These applications are reviewed by Trustees at their next available quarterly meeting. Meetings are generally held in March, June , September and December of each year.
